  1. honestly this is such a good point about how we totally misrepresent deep sea creatures, its like when ppl get shocked by how different a lion looks in captivity versus hunting in the mara at dawn, you gotta see them in their actual environment to understand whats really going on. also patricia youre so right about the zooplankton thing, the whole ecosystem down there must have wild pressure adaptations that we barely understand yet, makes me wonder what other deep sea predator-prey dynamics are happening that we just havent discovered cause theyre so inaccessible

  2. omg finally someone gets it right, the blobfish deserves so much better than that reputation lol. at those depths like 600-1200 meters down the pressure keeps everything compact and actually proportional, then we drag it up and obviously the body decompresses into that sad blob shape. its such a disservice to how they actually look in their own enviroment, thats like judging you’re appearance after a deep sea expedition. honestly the real tragedy is we judge creatures by how they look out of context when theyre perfectly adapted to conditions we can barely fathom, ngl that gets me emotional every time i think about it.

  3. Ok but can we talk about what’s ACTUALLY living at those depths with the blobfish though?? The zooplankton and copepods down there are doing insane things under that pressure and nobody ever mentions them, like they’re literally just vibing and structuring entire ocean food webs while we obsess over one gooey fish lol.
